ALTCS Resource Requirements

Resources owned by an ALTCS applicant are either countable or excluded.

The 2017 ALTCS resource requirements provide that a single applicant must have less than $2,000.00 in countable resources.

The 2017 ALTCS resource requirements provide that a married applicant and their spouse may retain one-half (1/2) of the countable resources they owned at the time the ALTCS applicant first met the ALTCS medical eligibility.

The one-half (1/2) of the countable resources that the married couple may retain may not exceed $120,900.00 - and at minimum the married couple may keep $24,180.00 in countable resources.

ALTCS countable resources include:

  • Cash Accounts (checking, savings)
  • Investment Accounts, including 401k, IRA, Roth IRA
  • Available cash from life insurance policies
  • Fair market value of real property owned that is not primary residence
  • Vehicles (boats, trailers, RVs)
  • Assets owned by the applicant's revocable trust
  • More

ALTCS excluded resources include:

  • One home property / primary residence with a maximum equity of $552,000.00
  • One vehicle
  • Household goods and personal effects
  • Irrevocable burial policies and burial plots
  • Otherwise countable resources that meet ALTCS' criteria as 'unavailable'
